Agenda:

232 SAC

10:00 a.m.: Introductions
10:15-noon: First Year Writing digital portfolios, 2009-10; Digication overview, uses, and features
Noon-12:45: Lunch and discussion
1:00-3:00: ITD, FITS, and IS overview (AMS technical support and training, Help Desk, back-end); discussion, Q&A, hands-on development
3:15-3:30: break
3:30-5:00: First-year Writing Outcomes & Assessment in McGaw Hall; meet with Professors Darsie Bowden (Director, First-Year Writing) and Peter Vandenberg (
Department Chair)

Context

Initial First-Year Writing Instructor queries, which also foreshadow student queries:

— “I want to let you know that I did not receive my log-in information.  If you could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it”

— “Will we have a scanner available? I have some newspaper articles and such that I want to scan in”

— “Will we be able to password protect the portfolios or will they be public?”

— “I have clicked around in Digication and it seems pretty user-friendly, if basic. Will students be able to personalize it (visually, I mean) as much as they could with Mac portfolios, for example?”

— “I have no idea what I’m going to use to create my teaching portfolio, so it’ll be kind of an adventure for me trying to get stuff together …”
